About Illume

We are not a
DEI consultancy.
We are something
different.

Illume Executive Consulting advises boards and executive teams on cultural governance, inclusive practice, and accountable leadership. We help organisations embed systemic inclusion as a driver of sustainable performance.

We operate at the intersection of strategy, culture, and leadership accountability. We specialise in helping organisations understand how culture shows up as performance, risk, reputation, and regulatory exposure โ€” and how to govern it accordingly.

Strategic
pillars

Culture is not a soft concept.
It is the hardest infrastructure
an organisation builds.

Most organisations invest heavily in strategy, transformation, and technology โ€” yet continue to struggle with culture, leadership behaviour, and inclusion. Not because they lack ambition. Because they lack the infrastructure to make it hold.

Culture influences how leaders make decisions, how organisations respond to risk, how talent develops, and how companies sustain long-term performance. When it is ungoverned, these variables become liabilities.

Illume exists to change that. We help organisations treat culture with the same seriousness as strategy, finance, and operations โ€” building the governance structures, accountability mechanisms, and embedded systems that make cultural change lasting and measurable.

We are not a generalist consultancy. We do not run training programmes or tick-box initiatives. We work at board and executive level to design and embed the structures that make culture a governed discipline โ€” not a sentiment, not a side conversation.

Our work is grounded in strategic and operational insight, systemic cultural strategy tied to business performance, data-led diagnostics, and executive-level advisory. The result is organisations that do not just aspire to better culture โ€” they govern it.

Culture stops being reactive when it becomes designed. Illume designs it.

Why Illume
was founded.

Est.

Over two decades working inside global organisations โ€” from frontline banking to senior executive leadership โ€” the pattern was unmistakable. When leadership lacked self-awareness, cultural intelligence, and accountability, even the strongest strategies struggled to succeed.

Inclusion efforts were consistently positioned as side initiatives rather than embedded into how organisations were governed, led, and operated. The result was a persistent gap between ambition and reality.

Illume was created to close that gap. Founded on the belief that culture is infrastructure โ€” not sentiment โ€” the firm exists to help organisations govern culture with the same seriousness as strategy, finance, and operations.

The vision is clear: to become the trusted authority organisations turn to when culture, leadership behaviour, and inclusion are recognised as strategic drivers of sustainable performance.

Illume Executive Consulting
Creator of the Inclusive Foundations Programme

Hannah Awonuga is the Founder of Illume Executive Consulting and creator of the Inclusive Foundations Programme โ€” the UK's first structured cultural inclusion governance model for mid-sized and growth-stage businesses.

With over 20 years of experience as a senior director, Partner and Group Head of DEI & Culture, she brings deep expertise in how leadership behaviour, culture, and systems drive performance and risk. She works with boards and executive teams to embed systemic inclusion into how organisations are governed, how they operate, and how they grow.

IFP reflects her vision to move inclusion from intent to infrastructure โ€” combining diagnostics, data, leadership capability, and accreditation into a scalable, commercially grounded model. Together, Illume and IFP are building a credible standard for culturally intelligent leadership.

The principles
behind the work.

We are not a generalist consultancy. Everything we do is guided by a clear set of principles โ€” about what culture is, how change holds, and what leadership accountability actually requires.

01

Culture is infrastructure

Not a sentiment. Not a side conversation. A performance variable that shapes how leaders make decisions, how organisations respond to risk, and how talent develops.

02

Precision over volume

We work with a small number of clients at any one time โ€” by design. Not a volume practice. A precision one. Every engagement receives our full strategic attention.

03

Structure over intention

Good intentions do not create lasting change. Governance structures, accountability mechanisms, and embedded systems do. We build the infrastructure that makes inclusion hold.

04

Commercial rigour

Inclusion is a business-critical issue โ€” not an HR initiative. Every engagement is grounded in commercial outcomes: performance, risk mitigation, reputation, and sustainable growth.

05

Board-level accountability

Culture fails when accountability stops at the executive level. We work at board level to ensure cultural governance is formally owned, measured, and reported.

06

A long-term standard

Our ambition is not to complete engagements. It is to establish a new standard for culturally intelligent leadership โ€” one that outlasts any individual programme or initiative.

Building a new
standard for
culturally intelligent
leadership.

The vision for Illume is to establish a new standard for culturally intelligent leadership. Through board-level advisory, leadership diagnostics, cultural strategy consulting, and the Inclusive Foundations Programme, Illume helps organisations embed systemic inclusion and leadership accountability into the foundations of their business.

Over time, Illume aims to shape how organisations understand and govern culture โ€” moving the conversation from aspiration to structure, from intention to infrastructure.

The long-term ambition is clear: to become the trusted authority organisations turn to when culture, leadership behaviour, and inclusion are recognised as strategic drivers of sustainable performance.
